Due to the long latency period of mesothelioma, approximately 20-50 years, about 80 percent of those who are diagnosed with this terrible disease are seniors. This organization works 1-on-1 with these individuals to help them find local doctors, treatment centers and support groups.

California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform

Since 1983, California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR), a statewide nonprofit 501(c)(3) advocacy organization, has been dedicated to improving the choices, care and quality of life for California’s long term care consumers. Through direct advocacy, community education, legislation and litigation it has been CANHR’s goal to educate and support long term care consumers and advocates regarding the rights and remedies under the law, and to create a united voice for long term care reform and humane alternatives to institutionalization.

Center for Medicare Advocacy

The Center for Medicare Advocacy’s (CMA) mission is to advance access to comprehensive Medicare coverage and quality health care for older people and people with disabilities by providing exceptional legal analysis, education, and advocacy. The organization provides important information about current affairs in a newsletter and emails, such as a December 27 2017 CMA Alert entitled “Spotlight on Skilled Nursing Facility Enforcement.”

The Commonwealth Fund is a private foundation that aims to promote a high performing health care system that achieves better access, improved quality, and greater efficiency, particularly for society’s most vulnerable, including low-income people, the uninsured, minority Americans, young children, and elderly adults.

The Long Term Care Community Coalition (LTCCC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving quality of care, quality of life and dignity for elderly and disabled people in nursing homes, assisted living and other residential settings.

LTCCC focuses on systemic advocacy, researching national and state policies, laws and regulations in order to identify relevant issues and develop meaningful recommendations to improve quality, efficiency and accountability. In addition to providing a foundation for advocacy, LTCCC uses this research and the resulting recommendations to educate policymakers, consumers and the general public. Consumer, family and LTC Ombudsman empowerment are fundamental to our mission.

Peggy Lillis Foundation (C.diff)

The Peggy Lillis Foundation is building a nationwide clostridium difficile (C.diff) awareness movement by educating the public, empowering advocates, and shaping policy. C.diff is the most common cause of infectious diarrhea in healthcare settings.
